Training Your Puppy Can Be Easy and Fun
You have brought in your new puppy, and want to start training him, right away. But, you have no idea where you should begin. Primarily, you should decide what your puppy should be trained for. House training is generally, the first to be tackled because you would not want a smelly or messy house. Once you decide to start with house training, it should start the moment you have brought your new puppy into your house. The first exercise would be to draw out a schedule for your puppy, its food, sleeping, playing routine and when it should be taken out for answering nature’s calls. Make sure to praise your dog whenever it delivers good deeds like using the designated spot for its excretory needs. Similarly, punishment is also necessary when your puppy turn out the bad ones. But, punishments should only be verbal and not physical. Physical punishments can not only bring negative results, but can also cause serious damage to the young canine. With plenty of love and affection and some patience, your new puppy will quickly acquire skills on what is expected of it and what are in the forbidden list. In a short space of time, it will become a proud addition to your family.
Crate Training
Crate Training is an ideal point to start. This would mean that you acquire a crate that is big enough for the puppy to move around and turn. Puppies generally won’t create a mess around the place where they sleep in. Therefore, your puppy would also learn to hold its bladder while still inside the crate. By keeping the puppy inside the crate during nights, you can save yourself plenty of embarrassment. In the beginning, your puppy may cry and make other sounds of complaint. But, if you yield, you would have set a bad precedent.
The Routine
Setting a routine during the training phase would be very helpful. Take time to let out your puppy at regular intervals. For example, you can let him out, the first thing in the morning, before you put him in the crate, a short while after each feeding etc. By being consistent with this routine, your puppy will soon learn what is expected of it and you will be free from eventual accidents.
Praise and Punishment
Praise and punishment are very essential in puppy training. For each good job that your puppy delivers, you should praise him with simple words like “good dog”. Similarly, whenever he does something bad, he should be admonished with words like a firm ‘no’ or a loud noise. Hitting the puppy is a strict NO. After all, you are much larger than your puppy and hitting him could cause even permanent harm.
